I had a very upmarket portable tape recorder in the mid 1960s. The brushes on the motor wore out. But newer models had a brushless motor which was a drop-in replacement. When I wrote to them asking if there was a way of replacing my old-style motor with the new one, I received a letter saying. "No, we're not fixing it. Please to buy other Akai product."
